14. SPECIAL BOOK EXHIBITION

On August 24, 2026, the College Library was honored to receive a valuable addition to its collection through a generous book donation by Sardar Mewa Singh Ji, a distinguished former IRS officer. To celebrate this significant contribution and make the newly acquired volumes accessible, the library organized a special book exhibition.


The special exhibition of the donated books was inaugurated in the esteemed presence of the College Principal, Dr.  Neeru Malik alongside enthusiastic participation from the college staff and students who visited the library to explore the newly added titles


The event was a wonderful success, promoting a vibrant reading culture and appreciation for lifelong learning on campus. The library department extends its heartfelt gratitude to Sardar Mewa Singh Ji for his generous book donation, and expresses sincere thanks to our Worthy Principal, staff, and students for their active presence and support in making the exhibition memorable.










13. LIBRARY ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

A two-day Library Orientation Programme was successfully conducted on 17 and 18 August 2026 at College Library. The primary objective of this initiative was to welcome the new intake of students and familiarise them with the college library's physical layout, services, and e-resources. To manage the student strength effectively while ensuring high-quality engagement, the orientation sessions were strategically divided across two days




Each day's session reached a successful close with an interactive Open Forum / Q&A session. Students proactively clarified doubts regarding specific library operational hours, overdue fine structures, and institutional login credentials for off-campus e-resource access. The orientation successfully empowered the freshers with the critical navigational and research skills required to optimize the library's physical and digital ecosystems for their ongoing academic success.





12. CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL
 LIBRARIAN DAY

The College Library of Dev Samaj College for Women, successfully organized a commemorative programme on
12 August 2026 at 12:30 p.m in college Library to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. The objective was to honor his invaluable contributions to the field of library and information science and to inspire students to cultivate lifelong reading habits.





Students were invited to deliver 2–3 minutes speeches on topics centered around the importance of books, reading, libraries, and knowledge. The event provided a platform for students to articulate the role of the library in their academic lives.





The event was a grand success, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students who eloquently shared their perspectives. It successfully fostered a vibrant intellectual atmosphere within the library, highlighting its role as a gateway to knowledge.

11. BOOK EXHIBITION

On March 16, 2026, the Library Deparment hosted  Annual Book Exhibition in the college Library. The event served as a platform to foster a love for reading and to modernize our current collection with input from the academic community.

The exhibition was officially inaugurated at 11:30 AM by our Honorable Principal Dr. Neeru Malik. In the opening address, the Principal emphasized the importance of physical books in a digital age and encouraged students to explore genres beyond their academic curriculum. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Principal conducted a walkthrough of the various stalls, noting the diverse range of literature on display.

The exhibition was a resounding success, bridging the gap between readers and publishers. We would like to thank the administration and the student volunteers for their seamless coordination.



The Video shows our vibrant student body and dedicated staff exploring the curated selections at various stalls. A key feature of this exhibition was the "Recommend a Book" initiative.

 





10.PICTIONARY COMPETITION



The College Library hosted a Pictionary Competition on February 13, 2026, to encourage student engagement and promote a fun, interactive atmosphere within the library premises. The event successfully brought together bibliophiles and amateur artists for a high-energy afternoon of sketching and guessing.

2. Objectives of the Event

  • To increase footfall and engagement within the library.

  • To foster teamwork and quick-thinking skills among participants.

  • To highlight literary themes through a creative medium.

The event saw an enthusiastic turnout, with 10 teams representing various departments.

The Pictionary Competition was a resounding success, proving that the library can serve as a hub for both traditional study and creative engagement.

9. JUMBLE WORDS COMPETITION

We had a blast this week hosting our Jumble Words Competition right here in the library, held on February 5, 2026. It was a day filled with laughter, quick fingers, and many "Aha!" moments as students raced to unscramble hidden words.






Events like this show that the library isn't just for quiet reading—it’s a place to challenge your brain and have fun with friends. Playing word games helps everyone get better at spelling and quick thinking without it feeling like "homework."

8.NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK CELEBTATION

Dev Samaj College for Women , Library has celebrated National Library Week on 19th, 20th november in college library

  • Purpose: To highlight the important role of libraries, promote literacy and encourage student participation. 
Essay writing competition took place on November 19 . Students were given various topics from which they have to write essay on one topic . Following were the topics::

  • Why , I need my library ?
  •  Impact of technology on libraries .
  • Why we still read Fiction?
  • Write about your favourite book .
  • Are libraries better suited for alone study or collaborative learning ?














Book donation drive and book talk Contest took place on November 20






















Students were actively involved in both day activities . Overall , it was a successful experience for students .




7. Book Launch

  Prem Rawat Book " Breath : Wake up to Life " was launched in Dev samaj college for women , Library on September 17, 2025 .








6.World Literacy day

The Department of Library has celebrated “world Literacy day” which was held on  10 september , 2025 in the college library .

Dumb-charades competition” was organised by the library Department . The contest had attracted 13 teams from undergraduate students. The teams were asked to guess the book from the library collection.








5. Orientation Programme

This programme is organized for the students to introduce Library's resources and services, as well as information on study skills to get on experience on searching tools.

 Programme objectives: To familiarize students with the library facility, resources and services . 

To acquaint students with basic searching techniques of online database subscribed by Library.

Orientation Programme was held between September 1 and 3. Students were seen actively engaging in Library.

The father of Indian librarianship, Dr. S.R. Ranganathan's birthday was celebrated on Tuesday 12/08/2025 at Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector-45/B, Chandigarh as 'National Librarian Day' by the Library Department. 






3. DSCW Library Chandigarh organized "Reference Hunting & Book Finding Contest" on 20th March, 2025. 

''The objective of the contest is to encourage the students to find out the information for their academic and career development purposes.''
